Baker’s Bay to Ponte Vedra Beach. The Bros are back together to take on TPC Sawgrass for THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP. Spieth, Thomas, Rickie and 🙂 held a #SB2K16 reunion during a practice round earlier this week where some shenans ensued (evidence in gallery). Here’s what they’ve been up to:
Rickie Fowler | Led the Wells Fargo last week after 54 holes but shot a final round 74 to finish T-4th. Rickie’s game is starting to peak again this season. That, coupled with his memories from Sawgrass last year, could provide the same kick-start to the rest of the season much like it did last year. However, there has never been a back-to-back champ at The Players. Let’s make it the first!
Jordan Spieth | Making his first start since his T-2 at The Masters. Seems to be re-focused after taking the last four weeks off. Although he MC’d last year, I expect (as we all do) Jordan to make a good showing this week. He was T-4th in 2014. You can watch him early Thursday alongside Jason G’Day on PGA TOUR LIVE.
🙂 | Had a MC at the Zurich a couple weeks ago shooting 68-81 in his only start since Augusta. Weird weather week in NOLA so don’t take that too much into consideration…especially coming off the mental aftermath of playing in the final group on Sunday at The Masters. A month removed, he should be back to normal, so expect some good play out of Smylie like we’ve seen from him earlier in the year.
Justin Thomas | Has had two starts since Augusta. MC’d last week at the Wells Fargo and shot a final round 82 at the RBC. Looks like all four of these guys are looking to get back to winning ways (or at least close to) this week.
(BTW these guys are actually real, good friends…)
Rory and Phil | both shot 66 on Sunday at Quail Hollow. Interestingly enough Rory flew into town today for The Players and got just 9 holes in for a practice round. He’s out in the afternoon tomorrow with Bubba and DJ.
** DECHAMPRO WATCH ** | Unfortunately, Bryson Dechambeau MC’d last week at Quail Hollow for his second consecutive missed cut after his T-4 at the RBC. That means he’s used up 2/7 sponsor’s exemptions this season and has approx $250,000/750,000 needed to earn his card for next year. So…to be continued…
Danny “The Masters Champ” Willett | Will be interesting to see how he plays this week in his first start since slipping on the Green Jacket. He adjusts back into tournament mode this week after the whirlwind tour that ensues after winning April’s Major. Low expectations may result in good play…
