Steven Bowditch Wins Twitter

Golf is hard. We know that. Steven Bowditch is the man. We learned that.

Steven had a rough go at Firestone today in the first round of the WGC-Bridgestone, posting an 82. He currently sits in last place – just ahead of 3 WD’s: Brooks Koepka, Davis Love III, and Daniel Berger (who pulled out after his drive on the first hole to lock-in last place’s payout of $50,000+).

After his round today, “Bowdo” took to Twitter for some light-hearted fun at his own expense:

Is there honestly a better way to react? I don’t know much about Steven Bowditch, but this sums it all up for me. To have this rare sense of humor about this fickle game of knock-ball-in-hole is imperative, especially at the sport’s highest level, and ESPECIALLY after a really tough round.

Unfortunately, maybe the frequency of rounds in the 80’s for Bowdo this year have loosened him up a bit. He’s posted 11 rounds of 80+ this season thus far, including a four-day stint at the WGC-Cadillac earlier in the year.

We know golf is a ruthless and brutal game. In no way am I putting him “on blast” for his performance. But, unfortunately, some people choose to do so. After Bowdo’s initial remark on Twitter, the internet trolls smelled blood, and came a-lookin’:

Pure gold.

Bowdo has handled himself with a refreshing sense of humor and total class. Whether he gets that top-10 he’s looking for, or not, he has gained at least one new fan in myself.

Oh, and don’t feel too bad for him…no matter what he shoots on the way in this week, he’ll still make more than most do in a year.
