CUT rory McILROY | (+3) | everybody expected so much more from rory this week – many picking him to win his third PGA. the last three holes of his round today represented the type of year he has had so far. on the par 3 16th, rory stood on the tee at 3-over par, knowing the cut would be at 1-over and possibly two. he needed birdies coming in no doubt. what does he do? sticks a 5i to three feet in typical rory fashion. however, he missed the birdie putt. that is the struggle of 2016 for rory, especially in this tournament so far. he missed multiple short putts inside six feet yesterday and did the same in crunch time on 16 today. but he still had two par 5s ahead on 17 and 18. had a 30-40 footer sliding right on 17 for birdie and hearted it with speed. a wry smile gave us some insight on how he felt. rory sat on the cutline on 18 hitting his 2nd into the par 5 with another 5i. he tried to fade it into the hole location just like 16 but lost it further right into thick rough. birdie to for sure make cut, par to possibly. really rough lie (no pun intended) as he proceeded to fluff it up just a few yards up the hill not clearing the rough before the green. he cut out the legs from under his fourth and still yet to reach the putting surface. barely missing his par chip, rory bogeyed the last and ended up missing the cut by one. short miss on 16 – drops bomb on 17 – bogeys with 5i in hand for 2nd on 18. mc u.s. open – t5 open championship – mc pga.
CUT sergio GARCIA | (+5) | serge had a wonderful chance to claim that first major this year. he has been in great form of late which led us to believe he would continue that good play into this week. win at the nelson – t5 u.s. open – t5 open championship. didn’t happen this week.
CUT dustin JOHNSON | (+9) | johnson is the only one that gets a pass. he has been playing out of his mind this whole year, racking up his first major and a WGC shortly thereafter. he also placed t2 last week at the rbc canadian open. his poor play this week was his first mc on tour this season and was a shock to the system. we give him a pass because we know dustin just brushes it off. not to mention he’s been in a different country every weekend for the last four weeks.
